High Definition Television

This is where we were when we last updated everyone. Cindy and I had an amazing vacation. We spent a week in Cocoa Beach, just hanging on the beach and around the pool. We visited Kennedy Space Center one day also.

The second Monday in Florida, we headed down to Miami and took a 4 day cruise on The Magesty Of The Seas. We visited Nassau, Cococay and Key West.

We came back on Friday to Cocoa, hung on the beach some more and then left on Saturday and went to EPCOT Center for the day.
On Sunday we headed home and went back to work.

Meanwhile back at work, WJZ was getting ready to go HD. This is the old switcher that we have had for about 15 years. It was a Sony and was on its last legs.

This is the new switcher. It is a Ross and was built in Canada. Training started my first day back and has been going on for the last 5 weeks. Beyond my normal schedule, I spent about 4o extra hours learning how to operate this switcher.

This past Saturday the switcher was installed along with 4 new 65 inch monitors that can each have 12 inputs into them. The inputs can be renamed, resized and shifted around just with a few keystrokes.

Here is the monitor directly in front of the switcher with its 12 inputs displayed.

I always describe this to tours as a piano. There are basically four sections that mirror each other, but can do totally different things. This machine is amazing what it can do and it has been fun to figure it out.
So far things have looked good on the air.
Just thought everyone would enjoy seeing what I have been up to. Hope everyone is doing well and Cindy and I can't wait to see everyone soon.

Christmas is coming!

Hello everyone. Christmas will be here very soon and I would like to propose something. With the economy the way it is, I propose that we set a spending limit on our gifts this year, between $25-$30. I know we have never done this before, but times are rough in many ways and this may help someone who wouldn't feel comfortable speaking up. And, when a limit is set, people can get very creative.

Thoughts?

If someone in your family doesn't normally read this blog, please let them know about this so they can comment if they wish.

Merry Christmas!
