Getting to work on time !

So today I get up my regular time. For those of you that don't know that'a 4:20am.
I clean off my car and have a rather uneventful drive ( considering the inch of ice on some streets)
Now usually my friend Nick is the first there. Today when I pulled in the lot was empty. I knew he was sick yesterday so I figure I'd just wait for the day shift supervisor to arrive.
For some unknown reason the thought occured to me to call in to the Lion "emergency hotline".
Guess what, we were opening up at 10:00 am !!! How stupid I felt.
Now I wasn't about to head back out on the highway, so I figured I'd just take a nap.
I didn't have to wait very long however, since they didn't bother to call the supervisor either, and she showed up on time.
Funny, but totally expected that the people in charge live 2 minutes away and can't come in on time, and the 2 people who live in Chase and Dundalk arrive early in an ice storm.
I suppose that I'll never learn !!

P.S.- sorry I didn't post a Barbara thought yesterday. Please be sure and read the one I put on today.
Love to all,
Bob

So....who's got snow?

The 1-3" that was in the forecast turned into at least 7". No school - #6; make-up day is President Day.

Thinking about Barbara

This may be a strange post and not the kind we typically do, and I hope it doesn't upset anyone. But I'm thinking a lot about Barbara today and wondering if anyone has a favorite memory of her. For those of you who never met her, maybe a story your parents have shared.

One of my favorites - Barb and I used to go to an aerobics class at Oliver Beach Elementary. We'd dance and exercise for an hour and then go back to her house and eat a big bowl of ice cream. Totally defeated the purpose, but back then I was thin and it didn't matter what I ate!

Catonsville

I return to my college life tomorrow and go back to UMBC. Wish me luck for this next semester, I have 8 o'clocks MWF!!!! Oh no! I'll have to wake up at 7AM!!

Congratulations Julie!

Julie made the Dean's List of the College of Business for the Fall 2008 semester! Quoting from the letter she received: "You have every reason to be very proud of your accomplishment. This distinction characterizes you as one of the best and brightest students in the College, while clearly marking you as a valuable professional prospect." Way to go Julie! Dad and I are very proud of you!

Ravens

Well, it was a good season. Somehow it is fitting that we ultimately lost to the Steelers.

I like this quote from Sports Illustrated:

"Flacco's performance conjured memories of another rookie quarterback who took his team to the AFC title game before coming unglued at Heinz Field. Ben Roethlisberger finished his first NFL season by going 14-of-24 with three interceptions in a loss to the New England Patriots in the 2004 AFC championship game.

Roethlisberger won the Super Bowl the following season.

The Ravens can only hope a year of experience will work similar wonders for their young quarterback, who only 13 months ago was flinging passes for the University of Delaware."

We'll see where things go from here! I took this picture as we left downtown this evening. I love when Baltimore is purple. I'll miss the camaraderie the games inspire.

Baltimore excitement!

It's an exciting weekend to be in Baltimore! Last night I went out with some friends and ran into Poe, one of the three Baltimore Raven's mascots.

Then today, I went with friends to the Obama rally! We got in line at noon, got to the War Memorial at 2, and heard his speech at 4. I can't even begin to express how incredible it was to see and hear Obama in person. Definitely worth the wait in below freezing temperatures!

Tomorrow- down to Pickles to watch the Ravens game! And I'm still deciding whether or not to go to Inaugaration. My desire to be part of the "experience" may have been satiated by today's events, but we'll see.

Is anyone else doing anything fun for the Ravens game tomorrow? Mom and Dad- enjoying the HD TV?

IndieColumbus

The newest Columbus mega-site has just launched and I'm the resident Blue Jackets reporter. It is only the first week in operation but the site looks really sweet and I have a few stories up, the most recent one was written last night. The two men largely responsible for the site are good friends of mine and when I heard they both were getting ready to launch a website I got them together for some coffee at Northstar and look what turned up.

Enjoy!

Well, gee.....

We've have gone from a winter storm advisory, to a watch, to a warning; now back to an advisory, but...we now have a BLIZZARD watch. All of this is for late tonite into Thurs.
And as if this isn't depressing enough, we learned today that Marty/principal is leaving at the end of the month. He was offered a job in the school district where he lives.

A post for Liz (and anyone else who's interested)

So I was talking to Aunt Randi about Artscape over Christmas break and thought I'd post here as well.

Artscape, here in Baltimore, is the largest outdoor art festival in the country, so I was thinking that Liz may be interested in applying for a booth. I went with some friends last year and a lot of the vendors are right up Liz's alley.

If you're interested, this year Artscape will be held the weekend of July 17. Vendors typically keep their booths all weekend. If you go to their website, http://www.artscape.org/, there's information about their events and applications. It may be a nice excuse for a visit too! :P

In case you wanted proof...

I attended the Ravens game downtown at our favorite sports bar, Pickles Pub, with some friends. (Look, Mom, I wore my jersey!)

I am so stoked about this win, although it's unfortunate that lots of people consider it "luck." (Yes, the refs made a bad call, but are three turnovers by our defense luck? I don't think so. :P)

Nick and I will be at Pickles again this coming Sunday if anyone wants to join us!

Oh Deer

Randi and I, along with Erin and 2 of her friends, went to the Komets game last evening for New Year's Eve. While on the way home a deer ran into the left rear of the Blazer. We think it was a small one; no one really got a good look at it. The damage didn't appear to be bad last evening, but upon further review the damage appears to be more extension.
On a side note the Komets won 6-2.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Here's to a healthy and happy 2009 for each and every member of The Jones Clan. I'm off to work so if you get the chance to watch the NHL's Winter Classic at Wrigley Field have a cold one for me!
