IKE

Things in/around Columbus are not good. Erin, Sean/Liz and my sister/family went 14+ hours yesterday/Sunday with no power. Power came on today for about 12 hours and is now off again. Erin worked, but Pacer was operating on generators. Sean's working now because "his" cafe gets their power from a co-op. Schools/businesss were closed today and possibly all week. Crews who could/would be restoring power were sent to TX earlier in advance of Ike.

We fared better here in NW Ohio. Some wind; lots of rain; no loss of power.

Here's one from the horses mouth too:

Northstar near my house has been without power now for 36 hours. As the only Northstar in town we did a record day yesterday, and an absolutely huge day today. One manager is on vacation, which means today I've worked 15 hours. Since no one has power and isn't going to work, they're coming in here to eat veggie burgers and charge their cell phone batteries!

The good news is, because the other Northstar is closed their staff is hoping to pick up some hours and we've been getting the cream of their crop down here in the kitchen to help with prepping etc. Liz and I go to the farm to pick vegetables tomorrow. I heard on the radio today that top wind speed in Ohio was Springfield yesterday at 78 MPH! We had 65 MPH in Columbus

Wow. I knew Ike had widespread effects, but I didn't realize just HOW widespread. I hope everyone gets their power back soon...

Power went off again here Monday from 3-9 PM and Liz weathered the outage. Today, we've had power the whole time and Liz and I were out to the farm to pick vegetables. I don't know about Erin today, last we heard from her was yesterday. Thanks to PA Linesmen for rolling into Ohio to help! The wind that came through Central Ohio is officially the worst ever recorded by the National Weather Service.

Glad life sounds better! Did Liz get that project sent to Paper Crafts mag? Ike was here in Louisville, too. Caused some damage at the course where the Ryder Cup is being played.

Things are better here. Power came back on at Pacer around 12:00 Monday after flickering in out & for a couple of hours. Power came back on at my apartment around 9:30 a.m. Monday morning & we've been fine since. I'm really glad I moved, b/c I found out this morning that Westerville (where I used to live) STILL doesn't have power. Dayton clocked windspeeds of 88 mph. I've got co-workers who won't have power until next week. I drove past Kroger this morning down the street from work & most of the parking lot is full of trucks of electrical workers that were getting ready to head out.

The damage is UNBELIEVABLE to see.... I've seen trees on houses, trees bent at odd angles, you name it. A friend of mine went out with his 2 brothers Monday & Tuesday & made over $2000 going to people's houses & clearing branches; they're taking them back to their parents farm to chop them down. It's certainly been an interesting experience! I'm really glad we didn't get the rain as well!

Yes, I did get my projects sent. Thank you for asking. We went out last night and surveyed some of the damage. There are entire blocks caution taped off and whole trees laying in the road. It's pretty amazing. We were unbelievably fortunate at our house.
