Jury duty

I received another summons from the US District Court in Toledo about a month ago. This time it is for the Grand Jury - meaning the first Wed. of every month for the next 18 months! Because I was excused a year ago, my request to be excused again was denied. So....Tues. afternoon I have to call to see if my presence is requested. If so, I have to be in Toledo by 8:00 a.m.

18 months seems like an incredibly long "term limit." What do you do if you absolutely can't be there one week?

...That is, one week that they request your presence.

There's no option other than my death. On the table is contempt of service which means a fine of $100.00, imprisonment of 3 days or both!

On the other hand we would go visit her.

Wow, that stinks. Maybe you'll get to take part in some juicy trial?

The grand jury listens to evidance and decides if someone should be charged with a crime. So...no juicy trial, Linda. Stay tuned....

Will you get paid when you miss work?

I think I still get paid. I better!! I do, though, have to turn my $40 attendance fee into the school. I trust I get to keep my mileage $$.

I also trust that Chris/curric coordinator will have to turn in her $40 attendance fee, too.

What are the odds that 2 people from the same employer get in the same jury pool?!

I'll post Tues. one way or the other....

That seems extremely long!! Biz Shaner only had to be on a federal grand jury for 3 months here in Baltimore. By the way, I have jury duty this Thursday!!! I haven't had to serve for at least a decade. I have never been chosen yet for a case. Well, GOOD LUCK!

Hope you keep your record of not being chosen. What court? Pay? Mileage? Sub?

18 months....that's Sept. of 2010! That's longer than long....

What if someone gets chosen and then moves or gets relocated away from that state/area? It seems like such a long time to have to keep your schedule clear.

Too bad I can't just
"report" that I've "moved" to FW and "use" my friend Cleo's address:-)
