Wind

Last night the rain and wind kicked up and did some damage to the house. We lost the storm door and a few small branches. Luckily the glass in the door didn't break, so the clean up was rather easy. The first big gust only took the metal frame and the top of the door, but it cracked the kick plate and left what remained ajar enough that I was worried another gust would rip that off too and do further damage. So in the middle of the storm I was dismantling the rest of the door with our power drill and a handheld screwdriver. An adventure to say the least.

You are one handy woman! Hardy, too, to be doing home improvement/prevention during the storm. We had wind, too, but mostly flooding. Some power outages, but not us.

What did you MD/PA Joneses have wind/rain wise?

Well, I had an 11 hour day at the new Northstar, came home to enjoy Top Chef on TV (the only show Liz and I watch religiously together) and was 15 minutes into a satisfying late-night bagel snack/TV watching when our power went out. This is a strange country where a man can't work all day in a restaurant to come home and enjoy a show about chefs without the power going out!!!!!

Good job Liz! I like a woman who knows how to do her own home repairs!
We had a lot of wind here, but no damage and no power outage.

Matt got me watching Top Chef over Christmas. Trouble is I've not been watching it "in order", so...I'm watching now and I think it's the episode toward the "final four"?

So, Sean...how was day 2?

We had a lot of wind, but no rain. Some Marylanders lost power, but we didn't. I did get a significant amount of mulch dust in my eyes and mouth on my way around campus though. :/

This week's Top Chef was pretty good. Nick and I watched it this evening. I'm excited about the final four!

Nice job Liz! I find it very interesting that you had damage during this storm which wasn't anywhere near as bad as the one last fall!

I got home last night to no power; at which point I decided to go to the movies, b/c I had no idea how long it would be out. I get to work this morning & my boss told me that her husband said we lost power from about 3:00 yesterday afternoon til about 7:00 last night (she lives across the street).

Day two was just fine mom. My first couple of weeks I'm working side-by-side with other managers so it is less-stressful than it could be. However, it is also like being in some sort of twilight-zone Northstar where I know all of the recipes but can a) find ingredients b) find utensils, pots pans and c) know the sweet spots on the electric steam-kettle because the one in the Short North was gas.

Imagine that you're used to cooking Black Beans on number 4.5 at home and suddenly you go somewhere else and you have to cook Black Beans at 8.5. Every number in between 4.5 and 8.5 you're wondering, "if I walk away and this boils over everyone is going to laugh at me!"
