Thinking about Barbara

This may be a strange post and not the kind we typically do, and I hope it doesn't upset anyone. But I'm thinking a lot about Barbara today and wondering if anyone has a favorite memory of her. For those of you who never met her, maybe a story your parents have shared.

One of my favorites - Barb and I used to go to an aerobics class at Oliver Beach Elementary. We'd dance and exercise for an hour and then go back to her house and eat a big bowl of ice cream. Totally defeated the purpose, but back then I was thin and it didn't matter what I ate!

I don't remember much other than what my parents tell me and what I see in pictures, but I still have the Cabbage Doll that she gave me. :) And Mickey Mouse ears with my name sewn on them that she brought back from Disneyworld for me.

I remember how: (1) she may have loved ice cream but hated peas; (2) when she got annoyed she didn't slam any doors; (3) whenever I came home from college and Mom asked what I wanted to eat she would always say "well, you can tell that the King is home"; and (4) when she started wearing certain female undergarments-ok, bras-she would ask Mom where her "you know whats" were and then she got annoyed when I said "You mean your bra".

Thanks for the post Donna-in our busy, everyday lives we sometimes don't take the time to think about those loved ones that we have lost. So, it was good to take a moment to think about Barb and the joy that she brought to our lives!

I have been thinking about Barbara today as well. As I told Donna yesterday, I used to meet her for lunch downtown once in a while.
I also remember talking her into me putting new speakers and radio in her mustang. She was okay until I got the drill and saw out. For some reason she became nervous.
She also took me to a world series game when she had an extra ticket.
Thanks for reminding us to stop and think of some good memories.

Today was the first time in days I stopped at work to read this blog, something that Liz and Mom sometimes give me static about. But I'm really glad that I stopped in to catch this wonderful post. After Thanksgiving dinner this year, Liz and I got to sit with Mom and Dad and talk about all things Baltimore family and sharing stories about Aunt Barbara then was terrific. Thank you for all who have posted here.

Barb's smile; playing cards; how she loved being an aunt; how proud she was of her house/home. I still use the little jewelry box she gave her attendants.

This is where Erin gets her dislike of peas.

Sean...just don't want you to get in trouble:-)

One thing I remember about Barb was how stylish she was - probably because she worked downtown in a lawyer's office. She had beautiful blouses, suits, and matching shoes and bags. She always looked very professional!! Barb loved decorating her house in Bay Country too. I often think it would have been wonderful to live only 3 minutes away from her. She was such a kind sister-in-law and aunt to Linda.

I always wondered where that dislike came from....

It's been fantastic sitting here reading these stories; some I remember from Aunt Donna telling me, & others are new. Like Linda, I still have my Cabbage Patch Doll, which is a nice reminder, however tenuous.... I have pictures of her & Anna Mae & look at them every day....

Thank you to everyone for sharing your memories and thoughts yesterday. It helped me feel a little less alone and sad.

Where do you begin?
Sometimes it makes me sad that you have to try to remember happy thoughts about someone, especially Barbara. I remember the first time we went to where their new house was being built, and asking where in the world we were going. Now I could almost throw a rock and hit her house.
Sometimes when I would drop Linda off for her clarinet lesson, I would park up the street from her teachers house which was four houses from Barb and Ed's, and just think about the happy times there.
I remember driving out to Ohio in her new Mustang, and seeing how happy she was.I remember dancing with her on her wedding day.I remember watching her hold Linda on her lap in her big wicker chair.I remember her slamming her door and then feeling sad that I had caused it, and then getting to laugh about it. All happy times !!!
This one's for Barbara.
